Climate
Commitment: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Beiersdorf is committed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3) by 30% in absolute terms by 2025 (vs. 2018) and to achieve climate-neutrality in all its production centers by 2030. Our emission reduction target is based on the latest scientific findings and is recognized by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
As of January 2022, our plant in Berlin became our first climate neutral production center, switching to 100% biomethane and cutting the plant’s GHG emissions by 99%. And as of 2020, electricity for all office and production sites worldwide, tesa and Consumer Business Segments is exclusively from renewable energy sources.
Furthermore, both the Consumer and tesa Business Segments have signed a long-term voluntary commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.
Packaging
We also aim to ensure 100% of our packaging is refillable, reusable, or recyclable.
In 2021, Beiersdorf signed the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Global Commitment and joined the organization’s network to contribute to accelerating the transition to a circular economy. In addition to these key engagements, Beiersdorf cooperates with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF Germany) in a strategic partnership to strengthen the holistic approach to sustainability within the company.
Commitment: Sustainably source wood-based packaging
We aim to use of 100% FSC certified paper by 2025.
Nature
Commitment: Act for nature through sustainable ingredient sourcing
By 2025 we intend to reduce water consumption per manufactured product by 25% compared to 2018.
Commitment: Act for nature within operations
By 2025, we aim to source the main renewable raw materials – palm (kernel) oil derivatives, soy, tallow, and paper – from sustainable sources and deforestation-free. For certified palm (kernel) oil and its derivatives the target of using 100% sustainably sourced qualities (RSPO) was achieved by the end of 2020. Furthermore, we are engaged in projects on the ground to support smallholder farmers in Indonesia and Malaysia in the sustainable production of palm oil.
