As a family business, we understand what a socially responsible business is, and we take responsibility for our operations and the surrounding natural and social environment. We believe that the further development of the company must take place only in a sustainable way. The AVA Cosmetic Laboratory sets itself a number of ambitious goals that will require joint commitment, including that of our business partners and clients. In May 2022, we became a member of the UN Global Compact, which allows for more effective implementation of sustainable development goals in our organization.
We are happy to be part of the Cosmetics Industry Sustainability Initiative. In our organization, we have always paid special attention to the natural and social environment, even if it was not a trend or a legal requirement. We are delighted that such voluntary environmental initiatives are gaining more and more interest, allowing the use of the experience of large and small cosmetic enterprises. By joining the initiative, we hope that our participation will help promote pro-environmental behavior in the entire cosmetics sector. We are convinced that initiatives such ‘Commit for our planet’ and joint, ambitious work will prevent the upcoming climate catastrophe.

Climate

Commitment: Reduce greenhouse gas emissions

By 2030, 100% of consumed electricity and heat will come from own renewable energy sources, supported by energy storage. We will publicly report progress against the target on scope 1 and 2 GHG reduction annually.

To achieve this goal, in 2021, we launched our own photovoltaic installation that allows us to cover the electricity consumed annually in the production plant. At the factory, we only use energy-saving LED lighting, and we compensate the electric reactive power of production machines and electronics. We are taking further steps to optimize energy consumption, including implementation of building automation (BMS) and energy recuperation in the production process. By 2030, 100% of the business fleet will use electric drives or other zero-emission technologies.

Packaging

Commitment: Increase recycled content

We commit to increasing the recycled content share of wood-based, glass, and metal packaging by 2025. By 2030, 100% plastic packaging will be made from renewable materials or recycled/post-consumer waste (e.g. PCR). As of 2021, more than half of our products sold were fully recyclable. We also use ecological or recycled package fillers.

Commitment: Sustainably source wood-based packaging

By 2030, 100% of packaging will be FSC certified which guarantees the protection of forest resources and the acquisition of wood in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.

Commitment: Join existing packaging initiatives

We commit to joining an existing robust packaging initiative by 2025.

Nature

Commitment: Act for nature within operations

By 2030, 100% of industrial and domestic wastewater will be treated at the local wastewater treatment plant. We launched a modern production building in 2020 and the reorganization of the technological process allowed us to save water resources and reduce the blue water footprint. We conduct research on the optimisation of the water treatment and purification process and prepare for the construction of a water circulation system in the plant. At the same time, we monitor the parameters of wastewater from the production process.

Commitment: Act for nature through sustainable ingredient sourcing

We commit to conducting an analysis of upstream nature-related risks to identify risk critical ingredients using the Cosmetics Europe database by 2025. For identified priority ingredients, we will set up internal processes to investigate ingredient traceability up to farm level, engaging with suppliers by 2030.

Commitment: Acting for nature downstream of operations

We commit to conducting an analysis of downstream risk at the portfolio level using the Cosmetics Europe methodology by 2025.
