Cosmetics Europe report shows industry shifting from sustainability pledges to measurable progress
NEWS / February 25, 2026

25 February 2026, BRUSSELS – Commit for Our Planet Partners are moving from ambition to action on climate, packaging and nature, according to the latest initiative report published today by Cosmetics Europe.

The initiative brings together 41 companies – representing more than a third of the European cosmetics market by turnover – under a shared framework designed to turn sustainability commitments into measurable results.

The reporting cycle for the second year – covering 2024 – shows clear signs of progress: more companies are measuring their environmental impacts, setting science-based targets, increasing the amount of recycled materials in their packaging, and strengthening water stewardship programmes across their operations and supply chains.

Emma Trogen, Deputy Director General of Cosmetics Europe, said:

“In just a few years, Commit for Our Planet has grown from an ambition into a practical framework that helps companies turn intent into measurable action. We are seeing real progress across climate, packaging and nature – and a growing culture of transparency and accountability across our sector.”

A shared framework in a changing policy landscape

The report comes at a time of significant regulatory change. The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) are reshaping expectations around sustainability reporting and circular design.

Commit for Our Planet aligns voluntary industry action with these evolving frameworks and helps companies to prepare as demand for science-based and verifiable data is increasing.

Looking ahead

The report for 2024 will serve as a foundation for measurable action, with the next phase focusing on improving data quality, harmonising methodologies and supporting smaller companies with tailored tools and guidance.

“Inclusivity is one of the strengths of Commit for Our Planet,” Trogen added. “You don’t have to be perfect to begin – you just have to be willing to start. Our goal is to ensure that companies of all sizes can contribute to a more sustainable future for European cosmetics.”
